10-day Sri Lanka itinerary with a private driver
A balanced first-visit framework from airport pickup through the Cultural Triangle, Kandy, the hills, safari country and the south coast — tailored around your flights and pace.
Planning note: This is a sample sequence, not a promise that every stop fits every set of flights or hotels. Sahan confirms the workable order for your dates.
- Day 1
Airport arrival and a gentle first stop
Meet Sahan at CMB and continue to the first confirmed hotel. Keep the first day light if the flight lands late or after a long journey.
- Day 2
Dambulla and the Cultural Triangle
Travel inland toward Dambulla or Sigiriya, with practical stops chosen around your arrival point and interests.
- Day 3
Sigiriya and nearby heritage
Plan the rock fortress at a sensible time, then choose a second cultural or village experience rather than rushing through every attraction.
- Day 4
Ancient city or a slower local day
Choose Polonnaruwa, Anuradhapura or more time around the Cultural Triangle according to the route and what you enjoy.
- Day 5
Kandy
Continue to Kandy for the lake, city and Temple of the Tooth area, with the visit shaped around opening times and your interests.
- Day 6
Tea country and the hill route
Move into the highlands. If the scenic train is part of the plan, tickets and the car handover need to be coordinated in advance.
- Day 7
Ella or a second hill-country day
Use the day for scenery, a walk or a slower morning instead of treating the hills as a photo stop between long drives.
- Day 8
Safari country
Continue toward the safari area that fits the route and current conditions. Park entry and jeep services should be confirmed separately.
- Day 9
South coast and Galle
Head toward the south coast, choosing Galle Fort, a beach stay or both based on the final hotel and departure plan.
- Day 10
Coast, Colombo or departure transfer
Finish at the airport, Colombo or another confirmed hotel. A very early flight may require changing the final overnight.
What to change before asking for a quote
Mark the places you definitely want, the ones you are happy to skip, and how many nights are already booked. Add flight times, group size and luggage. If a train, safari or beach season matters, say that before the route is priced.
A private trip works best when there is room to stop and when the final day does not rely on an unrealistic airport run. Sahan will explain any route that needs another night, a different order or one fewer destination.
For price planning, read the private driver cost guide. For a direct arrival pickup, see Colombo airport transfers.
Itinerary questions
What is flexible and what needs to be confirmed before the route is final.
No. It is a route framework. Dates, hotels, weather, train availability, park conditions and your priorities determine the final order.
Small changes may be possible, but hotels, tickets, driving distance and third-party cancellation terms can limit changes. Confirm material changes with Sahan first.
Only when the written quote says they are. Accommodation, tickets, safaris and activities may be suggested or arranged separately and remain subject to provider terms.
Yes. Share the actual pickup address and final drop-off. Sahan will rebuild the route around those points.
Ask Sahan to check this route
Send the page, your dates, booked hotels and must-see stops. He will tell you what fits before quoting.
