Where the treatments happen: the established Ayurveda resorts sit on the west and south coasts — Barberyn at Beruwala and Weligama, Siddhalepa at Wadduwa, Jetwing Ayurveda Pavilions at Negombo, Surya Lanka at Talalla — with a few quieter retreats in the hills near Kandy. Most run programmes of 7, 14 or 21 nights that begin with a consultation with the resident Ayurvedic doctor, then daily oil treatments, herbal steam, yoga and a diet set for your constitution. I book the retreat you choose and tell you honestly which ones suit a first-timer.
What I do around the treatments: the drive in and out, one or two light days of culture on the way — the Temple of the Tooth, a tea factory, the botanical gardens — and nothing that undoes the rest. Guests usually take Kandy and the hills first, then the coast retreat, so the treatment block closes the trip. The best months for the west and south coast retreats are December to April; May to September I move the wellness block to the east coast.
The car and driver are USD 75 per day all-in on this route; the retreat is quoted at the resort’s own programme price, which I confirm in writing with the dates.
